SECA will review your child's documents (IEP, Eligibility Evaluation, etc) and provide advice and guidance on next steps. The file review includes: a deep dive into your child's current IEP, current evaluation with clear feedback on the documents. We also meet with you for a 1/2 hour virtual meeting to discuss our findings, create a strong action plan, and communicate next steps.
SECA will align with you as a liaison to communicate your child's needs. SECA will become the point of contact for the advocacy for your child. SECA will review files, draft and send emails, letters, and other communication with the school. We will call you every step of the way and inform and guide you along the path. We will track legal timelines, progress report growth, review and work with the case manager for IEP revisions, and maintain solid communication with school personnel on your behalf. We will send emails based on your action plan and next steps to request an IEP meeting, demand explanations to current data within the IEP, ask about rationale of current services, and more!
A team of SECA advocates will be assigned to your case and attend an IEP meeting to assist in getting the best for your child. 2 advocates attend your IEP meeting, fighting for what is best for your child.
Please note: there are many advocates that are collaborative, kind, and empathetic in IEP meetings. However, SECA is NOT this type of advocate. We are purposefully known as the bulldogs in the advocacy world. In a broken education system, we are your last resort prior to hiring a lawyer. Our purpose in IEP meetings is to hold schools accountable for reliable and ample data, ensuring the IEP team is making decisions based on that data, and making sure that the IEP exemplifies what is best for your child.
We will review the current IEP goals and check for accuracy, rigor, attainability, and vertical alignment to demonstrate growth. We will work with the case manager to develop vertically articulated and measurable goals to ensure accurate alignment to your child's ability and grade level.
